The zeitgeist in libraryland is that of boycotting eBooks/publishers/anyone that does us librarians wrong.  We’re important dammit, and we’re not gonna take your shit.  We’s a gonna boycott yinz.  Team 8BitLibrary has gotten all riled up in this atmosphere.  It got us thinking.  Who else is doing us wrong?  We had to look no further than the people standing right in front of our desk.  That’s right.  IT IS TIME WE BOYCOTT PATRONS.

THIS PATRON MOST LIKELY SMELLS OF OLD PICKLES AND VOMIT. ALSO, HE WANTS THAT JAMES PATTERSON BOOK. YOU KNOW, THAT ONE WITH THE GUY ON THE COVER.

Let’s face it.  They keep us from doing our real jobs (Twitter, MARC Madness, Dance Parties,  and much more) and the other jobs we sometimes do (connecting with our community, helping empower and educate people).  If libraries are failing, it ain’t our fault.  The blame solely falls on the patrons.  They keep distracting us!

WHY DOES THIS PATRON HAVE A HORRIBLE LOOK ON HER FACE? IT'S BECAUSE WE DON'T HAVE MORE THAN ONE COPY OF GOSSIP GIRL SEASON 2 ON DVD.

It’s time we take our libraries back.  If we’re going to make it in the 21st century, we’ve got to take back our libraries from the patrons.  The same patrons that demanded that we fill our shelves with DVDs, video games, and other popular materials.  The same patrons who waste our time by asking where the bathroom is when they could’ve just read the sign that we put up (you know, that sign we created in Microsoft Word with that font that suggests that we mean business?)  The same patrons that are always using their cell phones in the quiet library?

BOYCOTT PATRONS.  It’s what we need to do to survive.
